Dreger: Rangers Trying to Move Gomez
As per Darren Dreger’s Live Chat on TSN:
Ray in Philadelphia, PA: There seems to be a lot of talk coming out of the Rangers camp in terms of trades. What’s going on there?
Darren Dreger: Ray, the Rangers are trying to trade for Dany Heatley and at the same time are trying to move Scott Gomez. I don’t see Ottawa swapping contract for contract as Gomez hasn’t lived up to New York’s expectations. Sather will trade almost anyone with the exception of his younger players.
I guess you can consider that a sigh of relief, that he doesn’t want to trade his young guns. This also makes it tough to believe that Dubinsky is part of a package for Heatley.
Take it for what it is.

No way is Ottawa going to move Heatley for Gomez. The only Rangers package I have heard so far that makes sense for Ottawa is Roszival/Zherdev and the 19th pick. I’d do that too, in a heartbeat. I think Rosy is replaceable with Sanguinetti (basically the same player just younger, if you look at the trouble Rosy had with the puck eating him up at times this year, this makes sense). Unfortunately, if the rumor that LA has offered Frolov and a pick for Heatley is true, the Rangers can forget it. Frolov is a stud, and Ottawa would be crazy to take the Rangers junk when they could get a talent like that.

I would have done that deal too, but that’s not enough to get Heatley. I guess Ottawa is stuck with him now.
