Au Revoir Nik, We Hardly Knew Ye

Nik Antropov took his ridiculous salary demands to hockey purgatory, ie: Atlanta, where hockey has failed once before, for 4 years, $16 million. This is considerably less than the 5 years, $27.5 million he wanted from the Rangers. Thanks Mike for the heads up. I missed this.

Adios.

In other former Ranger news, Fred Sjostrom went to Calgary for 2 years, $750k per year. Good luck Sjoe, you were always fun to watch, and you deserve some quality playing time.

As for Heatley, well, he’s going to be a Senator this year. With the $4 million bonus paid, it’s going to take a king’s ransom to get Heatley. To that, I say good job Sather, the best deal you made was NOT dealing for Heatley. Kudos.

Almost forgot, Marc Staal (Canada) and Ryan Callahan (USA) got invites to their respective 2010 Olympic camps.

First off, congrats to Cally and Staal on the Olympic invites…was hoping Dubi would have gotten one, but he has time.

I was wondering where everyone went for the cap numbers…I use Cap Central via Hockey Buzz.

I don’t really like Hockey Buzz for rumors, but their cap page seems pretty solid.

The reason I’m asking is cause I thought Vally was signed for 09-10, but he’s not listed…small detail yes, but just curious.

Fun little pictorial here of the top 25 worst free agent signings since 97.

The Bad: The Rangers have 8, count em, 8 of 25, for you math whiz kids, that’s 32%, woof!

The Good: The Rangers were able to deal Gomez, thus freeing up space to land Gaborik (I feel weird calling him “Gabby”).

The Rangers were also able to take advantage of Sean Avery’s terrible signing, where the Stars and Rangers are splitting the contract, but not his services.

Other notables, Paul Kariya was listed twice (Blues 2007, Avalanche 2003)…so I guess the Rangers are on the hook for only 8 of 26.

Maybe one that should get honorable mention, the Rangers overpaying Rozsival…

Sather is only on the hook for 5 of the 8 btw…silver lining anyone?

    What’s everyone else’s thoughts on SI’s list.

It is what it is. The only real bad one now is Redden, at least Drury and Roszival serve a purpose.
