Curbing Our Enthusiasm

The Rangers have won six straight. 12 points out of a possible 14. Pretty good. The power play is improved. The defense seems stronger. The offense is scoring. Hank is Hank. All is well in Ranger land.

Except it’s not. You see, we tend to as fans, get over excited. It’s natural. I’ve had friends tell me: “We Want the Cup!” And while it’s not out of the realm of possibility, we’re still a long way from thinking about that. There is plenty of reason to be excited. But, we must be realistic.

We can’t expect the Rangers to keep up this pace. We can’t expect them to ride this wave throughout the year. Doing so would be foolish. We can, however, get excited. We can gloat about Marion Gaborik, or talk with pride about Michael Del Zotto. But, we can’t expect to win the Cup, not after 7 games.

This isn’t meant to be a downer. We have every reason to be excited. We just have to be realistic.

how about “We Want the Atlantic”? I think that’s a reasonable goal.

C’mon, one game at a time. Leafs are desperate. Will they run Henrik on Saturday?

As cliched as it is i agree with the one game at a time comment. I love Gaborik but we still need him to play 20+ games before we can settle the nerves completely.

We have depth, a bright future, two elite (top 5 in the league at their pos.)players in 2 positions and prospects developing well. We have good strong decisive coaching for the first time since???!!! (beats me, and i dont count Keenan the nut job)….

There’s a ton of reasons to be happy but we can start thinking deep playoff run when we’re leading the East (or at least the Atlantic) come february….

I agree with you 100%. We should be excited about watching an exciting team play good hockey, but that’s it, it’s like we’ve turned into Yankee fans all of a sudden, where we win five games and start to assume we will go get the cup. Good Lord, we’ve only one it once in the last 69 years. I think it’s a little early for that.

Regardless, there’s a solid chance they get to seven in a row against Toronto.

Dam, I guess I’ll stop printing up my 2009-10 Stanley Cup Champion shirts…crap.

Haha, but seriously, it’s good to see a fast start by the Rangers
