Garrioch: Rangers Talking Kostitsyns?
According to Bruce “Malkin to the Kings” Garrioch, the Rangers are in talks with Montreal GM Bob Gainey for the Kostitsyn brothers (Andrei, Sergei):
…the Rangers have had talks with the Canadiens over the Kostitsyn brothers as they could be without centers Chris Drury and Brandon Dubinsky long term to injuries.
This is just standard kicking the tires, if anything at all. GMs talk all the time about trades, and the availability of players. It’s just the job. Also remember that GMs do not sell high or buy low, they are not that stupid. It would be incredibly stupid of Gainey to trade either of the Kostitsyns with their value so low right now.
Also, Andrei is making $3.25 million this year, the Rangers simply can’t afford him without dumping a contract or LTIRing Brandon Dubinsky. Keep in mind the latter option is a temporary solution for six weeks.
For now, I’m putting this in the “Sather just doing his job” category.

I don’t mind the players, but considering the source, and the financial obstacles, can’t see it happening. Wouldn’t mind secondary scoring, though

It depends on the price in players. Gainey wouldn’t ship them out for scrubs.

i say NO NO NO to these kids. Yes, both are very talented but they’ve just as many if not more (worse?) question marks than our unproven youngsters on the roster. Besides, would either be a guarantee of success? i think Andrei has only 1 30 goal season (so did Prucha BTW) and pulls down as you say 3.25m…
this is not a direction we need to go. Let our kids make mistakes but learn. Lets not take other team’s cast offs. Gainey was good enough to do that for us in the summer. Leave it at that.

The Rangers definitely need production from another source. The can’t keep relying on Gaborik to get all the points. Higgins, Avery, Calahan, Dubinsky and Dury when they come back. Or I say make a move. But would like to wait a little. Read the 2009-10 Rangers a blue print from a season ago here. http://www.puckvideo.com

Just an FYI John, my spam blocker is a bit hyper active, so your post got flagged because of the link. I’m trying to work with it so that it doesn’t flag everything with a link. Clearly, it’s still a work in progress.
