Game 21: Rangers vs Caps
Our beloved Rangers take on the Washington Alexander’s Capitals tonight at the Garden. Game time is at 7, and is on Versus. Lundqvist is in goal and so is Simeon Varlamov. Jose Theodore has a personal matter to deal with. We wish him the best.
Alex Ovechkin is expected to be back, but Alexander Semin is not a given. I expect the Rangers lines to be the same as the Ottawa game:
Lisin-Prospal-Gaborik
Parenteau-Higgins-Kotalik
Avery-Anisimov-Callahan
Brashear-Boyle-Voros
D-pairings, as always, will remain the same. This is the first time the Rangers played the Caps since the come-from-behind, two goals by Gaborik win. The Rangers should pressure Ovechkin a lot, because we’re not sure how he’ll react his first game back from injury. This is a big game for the Rangers, not only to gain points, but to build off the momentum from the Ottawa game. Crazy prediction: Aaron Voros scores a goal.
Use this as your open thread for the game. Watch, discuss, have fun. I wonder how many comments will be dedicated to the hatred of Versus. Should be fun. Let’s do it to it, Rangers.

Aw crap, it’s on Versus?
I will need updates, left work early but won’t be home for the first. Saw some Caps fans at Penn, I made eye contact and just shook my head.

Alex Ovechkin repulses me. There. I said it.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 7:09 pm
BTW, here are the starters, per Zipay on the Twitters: Lundqvist, Gilroy, Redden, Avery, Anisimov, Callahan
By Dave, November 17, 2009 @ 7:10 pm
Avery and Cally need to score. This is getting ridiculous.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 7:13 pm
GABORIK!!! A minute and a half in!!! Off the rebound. Play has been completely dominated by the Rangers. It has not been in the Rangers zone at all. What a start.

Versus ruins lives. Can’t watch the game.
By Dave, November 17, 2009 @ 7:15 pm
How many replays of the goal? I’m going with zero.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 7:23 pm
In Versus’ defense, they did bring on Joe Micheletti as a color analyst. Makes me feel a little bit at home.

I retract that Versus statement. Junior Seau is being interviewed to promote his Sports Jobs show. Junior Seau. On a hockey broadcast. Yeah.
By becky, November 17, 2009 @ 7:27 pm
Gabby’s hands are insane. Also, I don’t agree with this Junior Seau segment when my Rangers are smacking the Caps around. Also, if Voros scores a goal I want Friday’s lotto numbers Jeremy.

If you have the lotto numbers, I want in on this.

Aaron Voros just jacked Bradley up. Bradley is bloodied up, bad. Good for Voros
By Dave, November 17, 2009 @ 7:34 pm
Voros won a fight? Wow. Still not home…so soon
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 7:43 pm
Ovi ties it up on a boom from the point on the PP. Caps are now getting all the pressure. not many offensive chances for the Rangers, outside of that first couple minutes

Was the Avery penalty legit? I just got home.

Ok. As long as it’s legit. I’m getting tired of these Avery calls.

Holy crap that blond is hot.

Much better pace for the Rangers this period. More shots, more chances. Good to see
By Dave, November 17, 2009 @ 8:20 pm
That was a good save by Hank on Green.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 8:34 pm
Brooks Laich with the PP goal. Way too many penalties
By Dave, November 17, 2009 @ 8:40 pm
Too many penalties….that sounds familiar. They need to stop taking stupid penalties. It’s going to kill them.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 9:05 pm
Much better start. Avery draws a penalty. He “bumped” into Varlamov, and Erskine retailiated.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 9:11 pm
Marian Gaborik, will you marry me? Man is he good. Ties the game
By Mike A., November 17, 2009 @ 9:13 pm
Marian Gaborik, good at hockey.

I confess, I’ve been watching The Prisoner. Such a good show.
And I start watching and the Caps score, so back to The Prisoner.
Ugh.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 9:24 pm
Dammit
By Dave, November 17, 2009 @ 9:34 pm
This team is thin without Drury or Dubinsky. It’s going to be a rough few weeks.
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 9:38 pm
Ugh. Bad loss
By Jeremy, November 17, 2009 @ 11:39 pm
Just thinking out loud: time to call up corey locke (who may very well be the next Jason Krog, but the dude can flat out score. 17 game 9 goals 15 assists 24 points) as well as Sangs. Bench (or send down) Rosy. And there’s no need for Voros. I think Locke can succeed. It would be wrong to not give him a chance. And Sangs is beyond ready

The problem right now is cap room. The Rangers simply don’t have cap room unless they LTIR Dubinsky or Drury.
Locke is 25 btw, and from what I understand, a tweener.
