Girardi Not With Team

Rumors are abound that Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi will not be traveling with the Rangers to Ottawa to face the Senators tomorrow. It turns out that Corey Potter’s call up was not to replace an injured Michael Del Zotto, but to replace the soon to be dealt Girardi.

Although I have been calling for his trade, I never disliked Girardi. I just thought he had run his course with the team. Good luck wherever you wind up.

I’ll miss Girardi. I always thought the Rangers needed an Andy Samberg lookalike, and he was it (honestly, take a look at the two of them. It’s insane).

If the trade is for a scorer, presumably Potter replaces him. Girardi is better than Potter. Assuming no other defensemen come over via trade, are you willing to put Potter out there if it means more scoring?

He also looks like the bad guy from Spiderman, except hot/not scary. And he has ashtma. I already miss him.

To me, it’s less about a scorer and more about a veteran d-man. So, the way I see it: Souray here, Girardi and a pick to Oilers–Potter is still backing up MDZ.

Not sure that would work under the cap….rozi or redden would have to go the other way or be demoted to hartford. What would be the rational behind such a move? It just adds a big contract for an underachieving d-man. I know Souray has a cannon of a shot but he is a defensive liability and way overpaid.

There has been no other confirmation that Girardi is not with the team in Ottawa. None.

do we have confirmation that he is with the team?

Unless a legit news source confirms he is not with the team (and that is fairly easy to confirm, either directly or indirectly), I would think it is prudent to assume he is with the team. This site referenced “rumors” that he is not with the team — not one legit source has stated it has been confirmed he is not with the team. Kind of silly speculation driven, apparently, by a comment that Sather was seen talking with Girardi briefly at practice. Personally, I do think the Rangers should consider trading him, a solid asset, to address another team need, because there is ample depth. But I wouldn’t take “rumors” as fact right now.

I said rumors, not fact. Rumors are rumors because they are sometimes not true. Like this time, they weren’t. He is with the team.
