Hagelin and Campbell Open CCHA Playoffs

Looks like the Rangers organisation will have to wait a while longer before seeing Carl Hagelin in person. Much like in two meetings earlier this season, there was only going to be one winner in Friday’s tilt between Bowling Green and Michigan. With Hagelin centering what seemed to be the second line (with Chris Brown and David Wohlberg) Michigan cruised to a 5-1 win. The Swedish prospect chipped in with 2 assists – including one on the game winner – as he was named the game’s second star. Hagelin now has 5 points in 3 games against BG this season as Michigan play game 2 today. The way Hagelin’s side have dominated BG this season expect them to advance to the CCHA semi finals this evening.

With 47 points for the season, Hagelin is the 4th highest point scorer in the CCHA this year. Honourable mention in the scoring stakes goes to another Rangers prospect, Max Campbell, who is 14th in the conference with 30 points in 37 games. Campbell’s Western Michigan team (also last night) lost their own quarter final match against Ferris state 3-1 and play again tonight to keep their playoff hopes alive.  Should Ferris win and eliminate Campbell’s Western Michigan side we could find out a lot more about the Rangers intentions regarding Campbell. This is the last year the Rangers can sign Campbell prior to the forward becoming a free agent so whether he comes in on a PTO in the AHL or (in an unlikely event) get’s an NHL contract, his future may be a lot clearer very soon.
