Rangers Sign Undrafted Free Agent Jonathan Audy-Marchessault

With all the news that happened yesterday, the Rangers signing of Johnathan Audy-Marchessault slipped through the cracks. To be honest, I didn’t find out til I went to HFBoards and saw the post on it. JAM –sidenote: awesome initials– played four years with the Quebec Ramparts of the QMJHL, with this past season being his best. In 68 games, he put together an impressive line of 40-55-95, not including his line of 11-22-33 in 18 playoff games.

The 5’9 175 lb center finished his overage season on a high note, and was signed to a one year, two-way deal. From what I can gather from the French release of the article, JAM is friends with Rangers prospects Ryan Bourque and Kelsey Tessier, both of whom were teammates of his in the QMJHL. The 21 year old center will likely play with the Whale this coming season.

Funny enough, I didn’t see the signing either until going to the HFBoards to see the reaction to the Flyers trades.

This signing sounds a bit like they are trying to replace Jeremy Williams point output.

    Dave Reply:

They have been making a point of building chemistry with players that know each other. Lindberg/Hagelin, Tessier/Bourque/JAM, etc.

    chemistry wins cups ;)

    Dave Reply:

    So does talent.

wink…yes it does…why do you think Philly made those trades?…locker room problems involved in that process?…wink

    The Suit Reply:

Talent without chemistry does not win cups :)

    Dave Reply:

Neither does chemistry without talent ;)

How does a guy with those numbers go undrafted? Rangers are kings of undrafted free agents with Girardi and Zuccs.

    Dave Reply:

His numbers in his draft year were bad. Generally you need to see domination in the over-age year since he is 20/21 playing with 16/17 year olds.

    The Suit Reply:

Plus he plays at 150 lbs, 175 is just his listing. Kid is a tadpole.

Watch out for the Flyers, they may have traded Mike Richards and Carter to go after another Richards (Brad) Hope they’l get him. The Rangers do not need him to be another long term bust. The future looks great with the young prospects. Two more years then watch out for the blueshirts.GO RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Brian SCS Reply:

It’s highly unlikely the Flyers will go for Brad Richards unless they dump another contract w/o bringing back one. They have $7mil to re-sign Simmonds, Voracek and Leino. They are still well-stocked up front.

    Dave Reply:

I’m with you on this one. They have a ton of RFAs to lock up, they aren’t in the running for Richards unless they dump Carle.
