This game was a story about Henrik Lundqvist and penalties. As per usual, The King stood on his head and kept the Rangers in it. He had to because the Rangers couldn’t stay out of the box at all. Once the third period rolled around, the offense decided to actually help out their All World goalie, and gave him some offense to go with The King’s

  • Michael Del Zotto had a pretty strong game. He made smart passes, and played solid defense. He was the direct cause of the Mike Rupp goal when he fired a low, hard shot on net that left a juicy rebound. All Rupp had to do was put it on net. Of course, Del Zotto got torched by Alex Edler on the next shift. And then he took a penalty.
  • Henrik Lundqvist. Period.
  • Penalties. Stop. Please?
  • The Canucks powerplay is a thing of beauty. There is so much skill there. Plus, Sami Salo has a howitzer from the point. Guy has a 100 mph slap shot, but yet the Rangers were just letting him wind up.
  • How about Ryan McDonagh? He had a tremendous game. He generated a chance on his own while on the penalty kill in the second. He then crushed Alex Burrows after he harassed The King on a frozen puck. Oh, and he scored a goal, and schooled Cody Hodgson en route to an assist on a tap-in goal for Marian Gaborik. Thank you Bob Gainey and Scott Gomez.
  • Henrik Lundqvist for Vezina. He was trending on Twitter in NYC, the US, and Worldwide.
  • Seriously, enough with the penalties.
  • Speaking of penalties, at what point does Brandon Dubinsky get benched? What a brutal start to the season and a terrible offensive zone penalty. He woke up in the third though after Kevin Bieksa rocked him.
  • Back to the penalties, I don’t mind the Jeff Woywitka one because it prevented a goal, but those offensive zone penalties are killer.
  • Dan Girardi played 12 minutes in the first period. How is that even possible? I bet he misses Marc Staal, Mike Sauer, and his legs.
  • How about that Erik Christensen? Almost allows Burrows to score by just watching him cut to the middle off a draw in the first. Cover your man. You’re lucky to have a spot on this roster to begin with.
  • Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik continued to click. They will be fine.
  • What a pass by Ruslan Fedotenko to Brian Boyle for that third goal. Beautiful.
  • That hit by Brandon Prust on Burrows will likely be reviewed by the league.
  • This win was all Hank (40 saves) with a lot of help from McDonagh (1-1-2, absurd defense, ridiculous moves, sweet hands). What a game by the two of them.

The Rangers are bolting for Calgary as fast as they can before the police can arrest The King for grand larceny. However, they might be able to catch up to Brandon Prust, who was likely forced to walk to Calgary after that awful game he played.

As awesome as this win is, let’s remember that the score does not reflect the actual game. The Rangers were outshot 40-23. They stole this one.
