The Rangers are in San Jose tonight looking to build off their strong 3-1 victory over the LA Kings last night. The Sharks are a lot like the Kings, in that they have incredible depth down the middle (Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, Logan Couture) and solid goaltending (Antii Niemi). Their defense is solid, if slightly under appreciated.
On the ice, coach Todd McLellan has his Sharks mostly running an aggressive 2-1-2 forecheck, but will mix in some 1-2-2 depending on game situation. In the defensive zone schemes they overload the boards and play zone defense when the puck is at the points or down low. The power play is a 1-3-1 and their penalty kill formations are hybrid (depends on puck location/opposition setup).
Rangers lineup (probable):
Brad Richards–Derek Stepan–Rick Nash
Benoit Pouliot-Derick Brassard-Mats Zuccarello
Taylor Pyatt–Brian Boyle–Ryan Callahan
Arron Asham-Dominic Moore-Derek Dorsett
Ryan McDonagh–Dan Girardi
Marc Staal–Michael Del Zotto
John Moore-Anton Stralman
Henrik Lundqvist gets the start.
PP1: Staal-Richards-Callahan-Stepan-Nash
PP2: Del Zotto-Girardi-Pouliot-Brassard-Zuccarello
Scratches: Carl Hagelin (shoulder), Jesper Fast (healthy), Justin Falk (healthy)
