Sunday Link Dump: Youth Infusion On Hold?

It’s Sunday, so it’s time for today’s link dump.

Steve Zipay at Newsday thinks that the Rangers youth movement is on hold because the Rangers cut Carl Hagelin and Ryan Bourque yesterday.  I am inclined to disagree here.  There is a ton of youth on the team already, and you don’t just put youth on the team just to do it.  The Rangers are adding Mats Zuccarello full time, isn’t that enough for this year on a roster where no one really played themselves on to the team?

Jess Rubenstein at Prospect Park has an update on J.T. Miller, who is currently playing with the Plymouth Whalers of the OHL.  Miller finished with a goal and an assist in his Whalers debut, including scoring the game winner.

This post is a little old, but Michael Gleich of Bleeding All Blue checked out the battle for the final forward spot.  This was obviously written before John Mitchell was cut, but if Mike’s post says anything, it says that even the fans have moved away from Erik Christensen, who is supposedly in the battle for the final roster spot. So long EC, I hope CT treats you well.

Sunday Link Dump: Advanced Stats Are Used By Teams

James Mirtle has two great articles about advanced stats in hockey.  The first is about the new revolution of teams that are using the stats to help build their rosters in “Moneypuck” fashion, and the second is about why these stats haven’t caught on like they have in baseball.  Both are great reads.

Kevin Baumer of Blueshirt Bulletin looks at Dale Weise, and if there is room for him on this roster.  A lot of things need to happen for Weise to make the team, but it appears he could be ready for NHL duties.

Cris Cohen of Hockey Independent has a slogan that we should get used to this preseason: “Hope for the Best, Brace for the Worst”.  Considering Marc Staal’s concussion, that’s all we can do at this point.

Lastly, if you haven’t checked out Rangers Review for game reviews, you should.  He does a great job of breaking down the details of each game.

Sunday Link Dump

So the link to today’s post is http://www.blueseatblogs.com/sunday-link-dump-52.  That means today is the 52nd link dump in our history.  That means it is the one year anniversary of the weekly link dump.  I would throw a party, but I don’t think I’m popular enough to get a big enough crowd.  In fact, I think just Jugs and Suit would stop by.  But hey, it would be fun nonetheless.  Here’s to the one year anniversary of the link dump.

The Dallas Stars filed for bankruptcy this week.  It’s unsurprising really, considering the financial constraints they were under this year.  What is funny is that the Rangers are owed $2 million for Sean Avery.  Thanks for Avery, Dallas.  Oh, and Brad Richards. Think of it this way, you owe us. We pretty much gift wrapped Sergei Zubov for you via the Penguins. That trade still stings.

Mike Gleich of Bleeding All Blue looks at Mike Sauer’s knee injury –he didn’t skate for the first two days of camp– and it’s severity. In the past, it was never Sauer’s talent that held him back, it was his injury history. This is not a good sign, and hopefully it heals up quickly. Sauer is one of those guys that the Rangers can’t afford to have hurt.

Darren Dreger says the Rangers will commemorate Derek Boogaard with a helmet decal. The big guy will be missed.

Adam Herman of Blue Line Station has a great look at the prospects who increased their stock at the Traverse City tournament. He also looks at those who may have taken a hit during the tournament. To his “taken a hit” list, I’d list Jason Wilson and Sam Noreau to that list. Those kids need to impress soon, or else. I also disagree with listing Tommy Grant as someone who impressed. The kid is 25, he should have been dominant, but he was invisible. I’m going to have to talk to Mr. Herman about the whiskey he is drinking. I think Suit has him in line for questioning about his choice of attire too.

Since Adam may not know us so well here, I hope he is aware we are kidding. I do differ in my opinion, but I’m sure Suit has no qualms with his choice of attire yet.

Sunday Link Dump

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for this week’s link dump.  Don’t forget that the Rangers prospects have a game tonight at 6pm, so be sure to tune in for that.

Joe Fortunato at Blueshirt Banter has an analysis of the top three Rangers prospects to watch during the Traverse City tournament this week.  Definitely a good read.

Nick Montemagno of Rangers Tribune looks at the THN preview for the Rangers season.  We aren’t fans of THN here, but they actually did a good job in previewing the season.  A compliment for THN, I know it’s rare.

This is a short link dump this week.  On the 10th anniversary of 9/11, just stay safe.  Never forget.

Holiday Weekend Link Dump

Howdy everyone. Dave’s loving life in your second city (why is it called that by the way?) so I’m going to throw you some links for your amusement today. Hope everyone has a good holiday weekend over there and isn’t stuck in work like I am over the weekend. Hockey is almost upon us people!

Over at Blueshirts United, they look at the homecoming trip that will be Sweden for Henrik Lundqvist. It’s fair to suggest he’ll be given a very, very warm reception. Have I mentioned I’ll be there to help with the warm reception? I’m sure I have!…..

Nick over at Rangers Tribune has more Lundqvist for your pleasure as he considers what kind of work load the King should be dealing with in the coming season.

You know the hockey season is well within our grasp when the prospects have started pre-season which means there’s plenty of Rangers kids to keep tabs on. Jess, over at the Prospect Park does just that as he looks at some of the first games from the pre-season in the WHL.

In non-Rangers’ scribings Puck Daddy looks at 20 first quarter story lines to look for. Worth a read even if you’re like me and you think there is plenty worth keeping tabs on in NYC. How Richards meshes with the Rangers to begin the year will be newsworthy no?

Only slightly Rangers related (to the chagrin of some Rangers fans) is the new deal Fedor Tyutin signed with Columbus. Is he really worth a 6 year deal? (the answer is no).  Tyutin seems to hover round the 30 point mark for Columbus, so offensively speaking he’s not missed in New York even if he is a talented blueliner.

A couple of day’s old but a topic that is always worth a look; are the Islanders embarrassing themselves again? Adam at Blue Line Station tells us how they’ve managed to do it this time. The best bit for me is that Adam has filed this post under ‘comedy’.

Right, I’m off out for lunch before another evening/night in work. Lucky me. Plenty of great content coming next week including some excellent prospect related content from our friends at the CT Whale.

Sunday Link Dump: Hurricane Irene Edition

Sorry the link dump is so late folks, but someone by the name of Irene came and went, causing some delays on our end.  Anyway, here is today’s link dump.

Joe Forunato of Blueshirt Banter looks at who the top prospect is for the Rangers.  I agree that in terms of readiness, it’s Tim Erixon.  But in terms of raw ability and potential, it has to be Chris Kreider.  His numbers may not be impressive, but the kid as an NHL level skill set.

Adam Herman of Blueline Station was able to get a chat in with 2011 5th round pick Shane McColgan.  Turns out he started off playing roller hockey, then converted to ice hockey.  Impressive.

Jess Rubenstein of Prospect Park was able to locate an interview with the GM/Coach of the Plymouth Whalers (Mike Vellucci) about why J.T. Miller decided to go the CHL route instead of college.  Definitely worth the read.

Sunday Link Dump

Less than a month until camp opens.  Who’s pumped for hockey?

I wrote a preview of the Rangers season (preview is in the middle, between the Daria references) for Kevin Sellathamby (@NonAmericanHero) and his Devils blog Hell On Ice.  For a Devils fan, he was surprisingly polite.  You should go check out what I wrote on HOI, and if you want to read some Devils stuff, he should be your go to guy.

One of my old teammates from college started his own blog called Holy Jumpin.  In a bit of a small world, it turns out that none other than Kevin Baumer of Blueshirt Bulletin is friends with him as well.  Small world, eh?  You should go check out the blog, he’s in the middle of his Eastern Conference predictions.  The Rangers aren’t in the top-four, which means he has them finishing no higher than third in the Atlantic.  Go yell at him.

BReynolds of HockeyWilderness put up a post on Blueshirt Banter regarding Derek Boogaard’s charity Defending the Blue Line. Long story short, they need members.  It’s for a great cause.

Joe Fortunato of Blueshirt Banter was lucky enough to sit down with Gordie Clark and discuss the Rangers prospects.  Here are Part 1 and Part 2 of his interview.

Sunday Link Dump

Well, it’s Sunday, which means most of us have to go back to work tomorrow.  That’s no reason to go without your link dump though.  Enjoy these Ranger reads from around the interwebs.

Looks like Michael Nylander is attempting a comeback. Via HockeyExpressen.se, Nylander has had 24 screws inserted into his neck following surgery, and is now working out in Sweden to attempt to get back in the NHL.  Admirable, but unlikely.

Friend of the blog Chris Peters, who has provided us with a lot of valuable information regarding Rangers draft picks, has an inside look at the options a 16 year old American has to develop his hockey skill set.  Generally speaking, there are four options: CHL, USHL, NDTP, and college.  Each one has their benefits and drawbacks, and this is a must read for those following the JT Miller and Shane McColgan stories.

Larry Brooks thinks that Sean Avery embarrassed the Rangers.  Hey, let’s get all the facts before rushing to crucify the guy, ok?

Mike Hume at ESPN thinks that the Rangers are within three years of winning a Stanley Cup, and their time to contend is now.  Gee, that sounds familiar.  Haven’t I been saying that the Rangers are a year or two away from being Cup contenders?

Sunday Link Dump

It’s Sunday, which means it’s time for today’s link dump.  Enjoy Ranger reads from around the inter-webs.

The Rangers possible Winter Classic jersey has either been revealed or leaked.  Still not sure which one it is.  I don’t mind it that much, but it reminds me of those 1970s jerseys that no one liked.  S/t to Ricky Otazu for the picture.

The New York Times looks at the proposed plan for the Islanders new arena, and how it is a pretty difficult sell to the general public.  I do agree, it is a tough sell.  I live in Nassau County and the country is relatively broke, and looking to cut spending.  I’m still voting ‘Yes’ though.

Short link dump on this lazy Sunday, I apologize about that.  There isn’t going to be much going on in Ranger land this month.  Not to worry, we have many plans to keep the blog active, including a goal to still get two posts per day.

Also, stay tuned for Twitter giveaways from myself, Chris, and possibly The Suit.  If you want to get free stuff, make sure to folow us.

Sunday Link Dump

It’s Sunday, which means it’s link dump day (side note: this was written on Friday because of time restraints on my end).  Today is a special link dump though.  My sister is getting married today.  To my sister, I love you, and congrats.  To my new brother…good luck.

Adam Proteau of The Hockey News continues his string of irresponsible Ranger bashing by stating that if Brad Richards flops, the Rangers will go out and sign Dave Andreychuk to a deal before “Messier kicks in the door and rips out Sather’s tongue the way Khal Drogo did to a rival in Game of Thrones, and then take over as GM”.  Really?  Let’s at least let the guy play a game.

Larry Brooks says that the Brandon Dubinsky contract sets the benchmark for the Ryan Callahan deal.  Callahan’s agent said pretty much the same thing to Kevin Allen and Mike Brehm of USA Today. I think we’ve been saying that they will get almost identical deals for a while, right?

So Alexei Yashin has an offer from the Islanders.  I think we can all join in when I say BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Pause…breathe…

BAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Can’t…breathe…
